Federal Government[]
A "Federation" is a union (not to be mistaken with The Union) comprised of a number of partially self-governing states or regions united by a central ("federal") government. In a federation, the self-governing status of the component states are typically constitutionally entrenched and may not be altered by a unilateral decision of the central government. A prime example would be the early Human "United States of America".

History[]
Founded by human spy and rebel Jeff Sheridan, the Federation served to protect their ideals and goals in space on a much larger scale than originally expected. The Federation have always been known for many secretive experiments and projects, including supposed Planet Busters, and the project which accidentally caused the release of beta and improperly programmed drones - the Z-series - into space.
The "Planet Buster" resulted in a short Federation <-> Empire war, with damage on both sides being caused by Federal and Imperial Commandos, operating behind enemy lines.
